Legal Cashier
Full Time | Permanent Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Legal Cashier to join our professional team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the legal firm's accounting functions. This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your accounting skills within a dynamic legal environment, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and contributing to the smooth operation of our practice.
The role will include:
- To comply with the Solicitors' Accounts Rules
- To comply with the Money Laundering Regulations with due diligence
- To support the operation of the firm’s accounting system
- Setting up payments from general client, office and designated deposit accounts
- To enter receipt postings to the accounts system on a daily basis
- To post all authorised bills to the accounts system
- To input all disbursements to the accounts system
- Opening/closing deposit accounts
- Update the bank line regularly throughout the day
- Performing account checks against bank database monies being sent out and updating the in-house beneficiary library
- Calculating client account interest
- To post interest on client and deposit accounts
- Sending invoice reminders and monitoring credit control
- To manage petty cash
- Daily banking of cheques
- Processing of internal client ledger transfer requests
- Processing credit/debit card payments over the phone
- To carry out weekly client to office transfers
- Dealing with ledger queries, and all other miscellaneous transactions or requests that come into the accounts central email inbox efficiently
- To assist with purchase ledger and take meter readings
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules and Handbook. Report any breaches to the Team Leader and / or Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration
- Manage your own work allocation, productivity, and quality of work with minimum supervision
Ideal Candidate:
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively with colleagues and external parties
- Ability to work independently whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism and discretion. This role is ideal for candidates who are organised, proactive, and eager to contribute to the financial integrity of a reputable legal practice
- You will be required to provide efficient administrative support and assistance, demonstrating a flexible and positive approach while working in a busy and growing firm
- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable
- Strong numeracy, literacy, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a small, friendly team
- Willingness to learn, develop, and take on new challenges
- A collaborative team player with a positive attitude

WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS FOR STUDENTS
Every year, Sharmans offer a limited number of work experience opportunities, which take place during the summer months and are strictly limited to one week's duration.
Applications, including an up to date CV are accepted from mid-March to mid-April, after which, all applications received are appraised and the successful candidates selected and notified as soon as possible thereafter.
